Have Questions?

We have answers! Here some common questions.

Do I need an LTC in Texas if we have Constitutional Carry?

Texas allows permitless carry for many adults, but an LTC can still be valuable for things like carrying in other states (reciprocity) and added legal clarity in certain situations.

What are the steps to get my Texas LTC?

Most people complete: (1) the required instruction (often online or in-person), (2) the in-person range qualification, then (3) submit the state application, fingerprints and any other required items.

What happens during the range qualification?

You’ll complete a structured course of fire under instructor oversight. We focus on safe handling, clear direction, and helping you complete the qualification confidently.

What do I need to bring to the range?

Bring a government-issued photo ID, LTC104 (completion certificate), eye/ear protection, your handgun and magazines, and 100 rounds of factory issued ammunition. Dress for outdoor range conditions.

Does taking the class mean I automatically get my LTC?

No. Training and qualification are required steps, but Texas DPS makes the final decision on issuing your license after your application is reviewed.
